Brief & Objectives

TUDN, TelevisaUnivision, commissioned Zummatra to create a collection of original short films for the FIFA World Cup broadcast — cinematic pieces that could live within the World Cup transmission while bringing Mexican literature, storytelling and contemporary filmmaking to a mass television audience. The project brought together three renowned Mexican authors — Carol H. Solís, Guillermo Arriaga and Juan Villoro — whose stories were adapted into six original short films, combining live action and animation.

Cinematic Originals

Six original short films with the production value and storytelling quality of cinema, designed specifically for the World Cup broadcast environment.

Literature Meets Fútbol

Bringing Mexican storytelling to a massive national audience, connecting literature with mainstream sports entertainment.

Beyond the Broadcast

Extending the content's value past the matches — films that continue living as standalone pieces on ViX.

6 original short films · 3 authors · 2 formats · national broadcast · streaming on ViX.

Production Challenge

Translating three authors' voices into distinct audiovisual languages — balancing live action and animation — while building a cohesive collection with the production value and storytelling quality of cinema, all within a broadcast environment watched by millions.

Creative Approach

The collection combined three live-action and three animated films, each translated through a distinct cinematic approach and directed by Carlos G. Gutiérrez, Daniel Casas, Antonio Riestra, Elías Jacobo and Manuel Riestra. Produced by Roberto Toro Valdivia and Manuel Riestra for Zummatra, the project required coordinating multiple directors, production teams and visual disciplines while maintaining a cohesive editorial identity across the six pieces.

Execution

Zummatra developed and produced the six-film collection commissioned by TUDN, bringing together the voices of Carol H. Solís, Guillermo Arriaga and Juan Villoro. The films were integrated into the World Cup transmission ecosystem, premiering in the pre-match programming on Canal 5 and TUDN on ViX, and subsequently remaining available for streaming on ViX as a standalone collection.

Behind the Scenes

On set across the six films — from the village kitchen to the purple court.

Impact

Voces México brought contemporary Mexican literature into one of the country's largest entertainment platforms, placing original cinema directly in front of a massive sports audience. As a reference, Mexican national-team broadcasts across Canal 5 and TUDN have reached 13M+ viewers in a single match, while Mexico's 2026 World Cup broadcasts surpassed 30M viewers. Beyond broadcast, all six films continue to live on ViX, extending their reach from a one-time television placement into an enduring streaming catalog.
